Funding for third level research in the Republic is below the EU average despite real annual growth in expenditure of 12 per cent between 1992 and 1998, Forfas has revealed.
However, Mr Michael Fitzgibbon, Forfas manager of science and technology indicators, noted that "things have improved dramatically over the last two years".
