Speculation continues to simmer over a possible realignment of several European currencies at this weekend's European Union summit, but currency analysts in London are decidedly cool on this prospect.

European Union leaders are to announce this weekend which countries will participate in Europe's economic and monetary union (EMU) at its January 1999 start, as well as deciding the rates at which the currencies of these countries will be fixed against each other in January 1999.
