THE Port of Cork plans to reduce its charges and introduce a direct freight service to Britain. As the it works towards becoming an independent port authority, joint ventures will be formed with private investors, along with an overall £20 million development plan. It was announced yesterday that 1995 had been a record year, with cargo throughput of 7.5 million tonnes for the first time.
