The Nasdaq composite index yesterday had the biggest rise in its history, gaining 127.30 points, or 3.36 per cent beating its own record set just 24 hours ago. The Nasdaq hit its 56th record of the year at 3,911.17. The index has jumped almost 80 per cent this year.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 56.27 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 11,200.54, and the Standard and Poor's 500 inched past its own record, up 15.36 points, or 1.08 percent, to 1,433.45. It reached its previous closing record of 1,433.30 points, on December 3rd. On the bond market, average yield for the benchmark 30-year Treasury bonds crept up to 6.45 per cent, its highest level in two years, against 6.435 per cent at closing Monday.
