There are more changes afoot at Communicorp’s Newstalk radio station.
As the staff of the Denis O'Brien outfit bask in a warm glow after springing Pat Kenny from RTÉ, a shake-up among its other presenters appears inevitable. The news hasn't been good for some.
The word is that Marc Coleman, the station's economics editor who also formerly held that role in this parish, has been told that his slot may be under threat. Coleman currently presents the late evening Coleman at Large show, addressing a broad range of current affairs.
Coleman did not return repeated calls during the week, while the station would neither confirm nor deny that the future of his show was in doubt. Newstalk would only say that “a number of schedule changes will be announced in September”. So Coleman, at least, will be in good company.
He still writes a column for the Sunday Independent, owned by Independent News and Media, where O'Brien is the largest shareholder.
Coleman also picks up plenty of work as a public speaker and MC, so if he does find himself with some spare time, chances are he won’t be long filling it.
Perhaps his best is yet to come.
