Neil Jordan's film Greta has secured a sales deal with Focus Features, which picked up the rights to the thriller in a number of territories following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on the opening night.

The Irish director said he was "thrilled" that Focus Features had closed the deal for Greta "and will let her loose on a wide audience". Variety reported that the agreement was reached after "an intense all-night bidding battle".

Screen Ireland, which backed the film, said its slate of Irish titles, including Papi Chulo, Rosie and Float like a Butterfly, had picked up strong early reviews after their premieres at Toronto.

Major deal

"It's great to see such a wide variety of Irish stories being told at the festival and we hope these stories will be picked up and seen by audiences all over the world," said chief executive James Hickey.
