Magazine publisher Dyflin to go into liquidation

25-year-old company has called a meeting of creditors, as decline in advertising bites

Dyflin Publications, the 25-year-old company behind the magazines Prudence, Confetti and House and Home, is to go into voluntary liquidation.

The publisher has called a meeting of creditors and will appoint a liquidator on June 17th, according to a notice published in the Daily Star.

About 18-20 jobs – contract and freelance positions – are believed to be at risk and it is understood that staff have been informed of the company’s financial position.

Wedding title Confetti sold an average of 7,072 copies last year, according to figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), while Dyflin’s biggest seller is House and Home, which had a circulation of 17,684 in 2012.

The latter title, which publishes six editions a year, is the best-selling interiors magazine in Ireland, outselling rival Image Interiors and Living narrowly.

Prudence, a fortnightly women’s magazine that specialises in showcasing “frugal fashion”, had an average circulation of 11,441 last year. It is published by a related company, All About Publishing Ltd.

The future for these titles and Dyflin's contract publishing business is unclear. The joint managing directors of the company are Karen Hesse and Philip McGaley, who are also its major shareholders through a company called Waldengrove Limited, documents at the Companies Office show.

Dyflin was set up in 1988 to publish trade periodicals for professional organisations.
