The awards programme, which is sponsored by the National Lottery, celebrates the best in Irish journalism over the past year, with 23 categories covering work published in print, online, video or audio from any NewsBrands Ireland member title.
The Irish Times won in 10 of the 25 categories at the 2020 awards and took home the top prize with its Lives Lost series.
Former Irish Examiner editor Tim Vaughan is chairing the independent judging panel for the 2021 awards.
Chief executive of NewsBrands Ann-Marie Lenihan said the annual awards are an "important showcase" for agenda-setting journalism that is in the public interest.
“The shortlisted entries reflect a remarkable year of brilliant journalism produced by our member news publishers. Our members produce a diverse array of journalism with different audiences and views, but all share a commitment to responsible journalism whose reason for being is to probe, to inform, to educate, and to entertain.”
The awards ceremony will be held in November.
