WALL Street stocks rose yesterday as the latest signs of a moderating US economy helped the bond market.

WALL Street stocks rose yesterday as the latest signs of a moderating US economy helped the bond market.

The Dow Jones industrial average added 23.67 points, leaving the blue chip index at 5,689.45, or 15 shy of its starting point for the week.

Advances outnumbered declines by a 2 to 1 margin on the New York Stock Exchange, with 1,577 up, 781 down and 813 unchanged. Volume totalled 333.27 million shares. The Nasdaq composite index fell 1.04 to 1,133.65, and the American Stock Exchange's market value index rose 3.61 at 556.14.
