Aer Rianta expects three low-cost airlines launching flights to the continent from Dublin Airport to add 280,000 seats this year.

Lufthansa offshoot German Wings is set to unveil its plans for a daily Dublin-Cologne route later today. The carrier is due to begin its service on February 29th.

The Netherlands operator Basiqair is also due to begin its Dublin-Rotterdam service on the same day. Basiqair is backed by Transavia, which operates the flights. Transavia is a subsidiary of Dutch airline KLM, which operates chartered and scheduled services.

Hapag Lloyd is due to begin offering two services, one to Hamburg and one to Stuttgart, from next April. That carrier is a subsidiary of Europe's biggest tour operator, Tui, which is also the parent of UK tour operator Thomson.

Aer Rianta is giving all three discounts against standard landing charges of 75 per cent for the first year, 50 per cent for the second and 25 per cent for the third year.

State airline Aer Lingus plans to establish nine new routes to the continent this year, three of which will fly from Cork Airport.
