Little to cheer in early release of Tribune half-year figures

THE Margin is wondering if he missed a golden opportunity to make a killing in Tribune Newspapers shares

THE Margin is wondering if he missed a golden opportunity to make a killing in Tribune Newspapers shares. After yesterday's a.g.m. in the Shelbourne at 11 a.m., chairman Gordon Colleary handed out the half year results to the five reporters and three ordinary shareholders who bothered to turn up.

Those figures did not find their way on to the stock exchange screens until after 1.00 p.m. That means the Margin was in possession of price sensitive information for almost two hours if only he had known. Pity, however, that the Tribune results were the usual tale of woe, ruling out any prospect of making a killing on their release.
