Two Irish techies from 3Com Corporation - helmsman, Mr Noel Butler and crewman, Mr Gary Ablett - used their technological know-how to finish fourth at the European sailing championship in Germany recently.Using an electronic compass which gives a magnetic bearing on a digital display attached to the mast, the two sailors managed to beat off most of the 40 competing boats in their Laser II boat "3Com".
