INTEL corporation has reported a 24 per cent rise in revenue (turnover) in the first nine month of 1996. It rose to $14.41 billion (£8.75 billion) from $11.62 billion a year ago. Intel employs 3000 people at its plant in Leixlip, Co Kildare.
Net income (after tax profit) at the company rose 20 per cent to $3.25 billion from $2.7 billion, while earnings per share rose from $3.06 to $3.67.
In welcoming his company's performance, Dr Andrew S. Grove, president and chief executive officer said: "We are delighted with the excellent acceptance of the Pentium and Pentium Pro processor based servers, which has produced a stronger third quarter than we originally expected.
Third quarter revenue rose 11 per cent from $4.63 billion in the second quarter of 1996 while net income rose $1.31 billion, up from $1.04 billion.
In its third quarter report the company said it continued to see high levels of orders for immediate delivery while orders in the third quarter set new records. The European sector, of which Ireland is a key manufacturing location, accounted for 26 per cent of revenue, down 4 per cent on the second quarter of 1996.
