Fyffes is expected to raise at least £21 million sterling (€31 million) by selling an 8.6 acre site in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The fruit company has applied for planning permission for a £65 million redevelopment of the site, and is hoping to sell it if the consent is granted.
Edinburgh estate agent estimates suggest that the site should attract a price of at least £21.5 million, based on a minimum valuation of between £2 and £2.5 million per acre.
The run-down plot at Hutchison Road in Edinburgh is located two miles from the city centre and includes the Fyffes fruit market in the city. The firm will seek to move to another Edinburgh location if it finds a buyer for the fruit market site. It also includes two other buildings, including a former Asda supermarket building. Fyffes has been putting the properties together for the past five years.
Fyffes would be likely to book any gain on the sale of the site as an exceptional item in its results.
In the first half of this year, the firm posted a gain of €14.3 million from property deals. This included the sale of a shopping centre development in Dundalk, Co Louth and the disposal of a property in Kenmare, Co Kerry.
