Businessman Pat McDonagh, who owns the Supermac's fast food chain, has acquired a 10 per cent stake in the Galway Natural Health Sales Company Ltd, which is behind the energy supplement Revive Active.

Daithí O'Connor, co-founder of the company, confirmed to The Irish Times Mr McDonagh has become an investor but declined to say how much he paid for his stake.

Mr McDonagh will become a non-executive director of the Galway business, which was founded in 2011.

“Pat was taking the product at the time we were looking for an investor,” Mr O’Connor said. He said Revive Active has been made available at the leisure centre in the Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick, which Mr McDonagh owns.

According to Mr O’Connor, Revive Active can boost energy levels and benefit circulation.

Manufactured in Dundalk, it is stocked in over 400 retail outlets in Ireland and 35 in the UK. Online orders have been received from Australia, the US, Lithuania, Germany, Spain, Portugal and South Africa. The company achieved turnover of €753,000 in 2012, 30 per cent of which was online.
