The AA is hiring an extra 30 telesales staff for its insurance department following a "significant increase" in demand.

In addition to the contact-centre jobs, the AA is recruiting for a range of roles across its business, including within its breakdown and AA Roadwatch services, IT and finance. The jobs will be based in central Dublin.

The 30 telesales roles in its Dublin city-centre offices are to be filled immediately.

"The motor insurance market has been confusing and expensive for people with price increases and that adds to demand for services like those provided by the AA," said company spokesman Conor Faughnan.

“At the same time roads and travel have become busier with rising numbers in employment and a general increase in economic activity.

“It all means that we need more people. We are adding the jobs immediately and we expect 2017 to be a very busy year.”

The AA said there was an increased demand on brokers to explain cost increases to “understandably frustrated” motorists. The company said it expected the trend to continue.

“It’s fair to say that insurance costs have been the number-one consumer issue for motorists this year,” said Mr Faughnan. “People are rightly demanding to know what is going on and how it can be fixed.”

The AA employs about 450 people across the State.
