Energy group SSE Renewables says that it has given €1.1 million in funding o more than 400 sports clubs, local groups, schools and students in 2020/21.
The company, part of the same group as energy supplier, Airtricity, has set aside cash to aid communities and organisations near its wind farms.
On Wednesday SSE Renewables said that it gave €1.1 million to 412 projects from the Community Fund in 2020/21, its biggest ever contribution to local groups and causes.
It calculated that this brought to €8.9 million the total that SSE Renewables has given communities based closest to its Irish on-shore wind farms since 2004.
SSE distributed more than €350,000 to support groups' response to the Covid-19 crisis in counties around the Republic, the company said.
Its Galway Wind Park scholarship fund provided cash to 19 students to help them get to third-level education.
Jim Smith, managing director, SSE Renewables, said the company was committed to aiding more communities in the year to come.
