Mr McNicholas will join Bord Gais from NTR, where he is currently the chief executive officer.

From Co Mayo, he has more than twenty five years experience in the Irish and international energy industry, both in the semi-state and private sectors.

During that time, he has held senior positions with responsibility for major with responsibility for major infrastructure and capital projects, restructuring, managing regulatory environments and competing in open energy markets.

Separately, NTR has reported a rise in revenues for the six month period to 30 Setpember 2012. Group revenue from continuing operations was €10.8 million, compared to €10 million in the same period in 2011.

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) increased to €4.5 million from a loss of €3.4 million in the comparable period in 2011.

Losses for the period were €46.8 million, including a €40.8 million loss from discontinued operations., the company said today in an interim management statement.
