EMC Corporation, the world’s biggest maker of storage computers, is spending “a lot of money” on its Chinese manufacturing efforts, according to its president of operations in the region.
Steve Leonard, the president of EMC in Asia-Pacific and Japan, said the company had recently started manufacturing in China and other parts of Asia via contractors. He declined to name the manufacturing partners or say whether the production replaces any of EMC’s work in the US or Europe. However, the products built in China are for use in that market.
EMC employs more than 1,600 people in Ireland between its plant at Ovens, Co Cork, and a sales office in Dublin.
A spokeswoman for the company said the production in China had no impact on the Irish operation.
