REPORT: An electricity shortage will develop if the trading mechanism in the market is not changed, consultants warned yesterday.

NCB Stockbrokers, in a report to energy regulator Mr Tom Reeves, said failure to change the system in which firms trade electricity would result in a reduction in potential competition levels.

This was despite expectations that the requirement for electricity would rise again in the near future, although a number of parties remained interested in developing projects.
