EIRCELL is cutting more of its charges as competition in the mobile phone market increases.

Two weeks after announcing cuts in its domestic call charges, Eircell has now cut the charges for international calls by around 20 per cent.

The move, part of a wider programme of increasing coverage and customer care, means calls to Britain would cost up to 25 per cent less.

The lower rates will come into force on October 21st. Analogue, or 088 customers, would save when they make international calls from Ireland while digital or 087 customers would also save money when roaming, or using the phone abroad.

Eircell chief executive Mr Stephen Brewer also launched a new customer service programme for the company's top 50 corporate customers. This will give these businesses a dedicated help desk and specialist technical support, Mr Brewer said.

New products such as a short message service and the ability to send faxes and data from a mobile will be announced before Christmas.

Mr Brewer is also hoping to finalise the integration of the mobile into the fixed line network, allowing mobiles to operate as an extension on company switchboards.
