Self-employed get extended deadline to file tax returns online

Over 397,000 income tax returns filed electronically last year

The Revenue Commissioners has announced an extended deadline of Thursday, November 12th for people who file their tax returns online.

Those filing paper-based returns face an earlier deadline of October 31st.

To qualify for the extension, customers must both file 2015 Form 12 and make the necessary payment for preliminary tax for 2015 and the balance for income tax in 2014 through Revenue’s Online Service (ROS).

More than 397,000 income tax returns were filed electronically last year for 2013. This marks an increase of 4.5 per cent on the previous year.

Those who fail to assess their tax liability correctly face fines. Revenue also imposes a surcharge of 5 per cent if you are less than two months late in filing a tax return, rising to 10 per cent thereafter.
