A US water purification company is to establish its European headquarters in Limerick creating 44 jobs.

Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton TD today announced that MECO, a manufacturer of engineered products for water purification, is to open its European headquarters in the National Technology Park in Limerick.

Speaking at the announcement Minister Bruton said: “Life sciences and process industries are a key target for investment as part of our Action Plan for Jobs. This is a hugely important area which has the capacity to bring employment to a range of skill levels and in regional locations, and since taking office we have put in place a range of new supports for businesses in this area.”

According to MECO's president Geroge Gsell, the establishment of the European headquarters in Limerick is a reflection of the company's mission to provide the most reliable and responsive service to customers across the globe.

“Our fully staffed, strategically located office in Ireland will service our existing customers as well as support our planned expansion of new customers throughout Europe,” he said.

Minister Bruton made the jobs announcement after visiting the Three customer contact centre in Limerick which has completed the transition of all customer calls from Mumbai to Ireland, filling 100 roles in the process.

The Limerick facility now employs 450 people and is now expected to receive over 2.6m calls each year, one million more than a year ago.

Also visiting the Plassey Technological Park in Limerick today was the Minister for Finance Michael Noonan who said it was a great morning to be "sharing good news for Limerick".

Minister for Education Jan O’Sullivan said there is a strong employment base of good jobs being developed in the Limerick area and that local education institutions and company’s were participating strongly in this process.
