One More Thing: Investec commissions a proper charity day

The good folk at Investec have decided to donate all trading commissions from its Institutional Equities trading desk next Thursday to charity.

To boost the haul for the beneficiaries – the LauraLynn Children's Hospice Foundation, Pieta House, Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland and the Ross Nugent Foundation – let's hope the markets on the day discover some financial Viagra.

Conor O’Kelly, deputy chairman at the institution, said the event is a tradition at the Dublin office stretching back more than a decade, long before NCB was taken over by the South African bank Investec and renamed.

There is also a charity raffle planned. Johnny Sexton has donated his boots from the Lions tour, Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has put up a signed sweater, and the Leinster rugby squad has also donated a signed jersey. There is also a game of Giant Twister scheduled. You know the game – right hand to yellow square, left leg to green circle, etc.

Can you imagine the likes of O'Kelly, the corporate finance boss Liam Booth, and chief economist Philip O'Sullivan tying themselves up in knots on a giant coloured mat in their socks?

They could charge at the door for access to that one.
