THE COMPANY behind Eamonn Doran’s pub and music venue in Temple Bar, Dublin, has gone into liquidation with debts of €917,000, including €602,000 owing in unpaid taxes.
Dermot Doran, a director of Eamonn Doran Limited, said in a statement to a creditors’ meeting on Wednesday that the pub encountered trading difficulties earlier this year. He failed to secure outside investment which would have repaid debts which were due to the company’s landlord and the Revenue Commissioners, he said.
A deal with potential investors was meant to have closed last June but delays eventually led to the landlord taking possession of the premises at Crown Alley on August 26th, he said.
Mr Doran said the landlord successfully applied to transfer the licence on the pub from the company to his own name. “Faced with no premises and no licence I had no choice but to cease trading. I surrendered the lease back to the landlord,” he said. He added in his statement he had “lost significant investment in the business and I have no more money to invest”.
“Because I have put everything into this company, my family and myself are now left with nothing but personal debts. If there was anything more that I could do we would not be here today,” he said.
Myles Kirby, an accountant with Ferris Associates in Dublin, was appointed liquidator of Eamonn Doran Limited, while accountant John Barry of Barry Partners was appointed liquidator to another company Losida, which was also wound up on Wednesday.
Losida operated Di Fontaine’s pizzeria next to Eamonn Doran’s, which has reopened as 3 Crown Alley under a new operator.
The largest trade creditors of Eamonn Doran’s are the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO), which is owed €29,900, and Adams solicitors, which is owed €21,300, according to a statement of affairs issued to creditors.
Employee claims total €12,300, according to the company.
The Temple Bar venue was previously known as the Rock Garden. Eamonn Doran's hosted an episode of the Channel 4 programme TFI Fridaypresented by Chris Evans in March 2000.
