Journalists at Independent News & Media (IN&M) have raised concerns about the company's plans to move to new offices on Talbot Street in Dublin city centre.

A meeting of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) took place yesterday at the paper and concerns were raised over security, canteen facilities and storage space in the new building. The company has agreed to hire an ergonomics expert to study the new work environment.

At the meeting, several journalists said the new accommodation was not on a par with the offices at Middle Abbey Street. Several objected to the company writing to individual journalists about the offices, rather than directly to the NUJ.

The following titles will operate from the offices in October: the Irish Independent, the Evening Herald and the Sunday Independent. The Sunday World is also moving offices from Terenure in November.

IN&M is moving from its offices on Middle Abbey Street, which have been sold to Arnotts for approximately €26 million. A spokesman said the company was anxious to have a dialogue with staff about the issues.
