A complaint about the tactics Eircom uses to woo back customers has been forwarded to ComReg by the Competition Authority, which said the issue falls within the telecom regulator's ambit.

It is also mindful that ComReg is already investigating the same matter and is wary of duplication.

The complaint was made by IFA Telecom, the phone company owned by the Irish Farmers' Association.

In January, ComReg found Eircom field staff had misled a customer over price differences between the incumbent and a rival.

It is continuing with its inquiries.
