Summits, summits everywhere.
The One Young World summit, a global get-together of young high achievers, takes place this week at Convention Centre Dublin. It was interesting to see Ronan Dunne, one of those senior corporate executives Ireland didn't know it had, listed to host a session of the event yesterday.
Dunne, a Dublin-born bean counter, is the chief executive of Telefónica UK, which trades as the mobile firm O2. It has 23 million subscribers, making Dunne one of the most senior suits on the European mobile industry block. He started out as a banker with Banque Nationale de Paris, before stints in the waste and logistics industries prior to joining O2 in 2001. He's and is now on the executive committee for the Telefónica group globally.
He was due to host an onstage chat at OYW between the presidents of Peru, Colombia, Panama and Mexico. Dunne, a director of the Guardian Media Group and AVG Technologies, was also to give a presentation based upon a survey of Latin America's "interactive generation". They really know how to churn out those business types at Blackrock College.
