Carlow town site on river Barrow sells for €1.3m

Site on more than three hectares has lapsed permission for retail units, office and hotel

An exceptional site in Carlow town centre with scope to develop a range of new commercial facilities has been sold for €1.3 million through John Swarbrigg of Savills.

The 3.43-hectare (8.47-acre) site fronts on to the river Barrow as well as Dublin Street and Cox’s Lane, and includes the vacant St Brigid’s Hospital, which is now listed for preservation.

A previous planning permission, which has now elapsed, provided for the development of 10,978sq m (118.66sq ft) of retail and commercial units, a 153-bedroom hotel with conference and restaurant facilities, nine single-level own-door offices, 86 apartments, and a two-level basement car park with 1,210 spaces.
