€1.4m for grand Georgian

Another opportunity to convert one of Dublin’s great Georgian houses into a prestigious home will arise shortly when Lisney auctions number 9 Merrion Square on November 27th.

Several similar period buildings have been bought as family homes over the past three years following the collapse in values.

Michelle Flynn of Lisney is seeking €1.4 million for the four-storey over basement building, one of the best preserved on the square to have been offered for sale in recent years. The house dates from 1760 and retains most of its original features. It has an overall floor area of 552sq m (5,942sq ft).

There are five car parking spaces at the rear with access off Denzille Lane. The house is being sold on the instructions of receiver Tom Murray of Friel Stafford.

Houses such as 9 Merrion Square sold at €4 million to €5 million during the boom. A new record was set in July, 2007, when Loughlin Quinn paid almost €9 million at a Finnegan Menton auction for 80 Merrion Square which had been used as the headquarters of the Football Association of Ireland. It is now rented by the Slovakian embassy.
