STATE ENERGY and waste company Bord na Móna has won contracts worth €3 million for the supply of its odour and watertreatment technologies to businesses and municipal authorities in Europe and the US over the last nine months.

The company has developed a system using peat and seashells which absorbs chemicals that create unpleasant smells.

It has been running trials of this system with municipal authorities and utilities in a number of countries.

Bord na Móna says a number of potential clients have given these systems their approval following these trials and have purchased them for use in water-treatment facilities and industrial plants.

According to Ian Philips, manager of environmental technology at Bord na Móna, the customers that the State company has recruited include SIAAP, a Parisian water utility, the Monza waste-water treatment plant in Italy and Bransand Northumbrian Water in England.

In addition, two Bord na Móna units have been installed at a waste-water pumping station at North Point in Hong Kong, and the company has also won a €750,000 contract from British Steel to treat emissions.
