Snap apple: Carlow Brewery Company buys Craigies Cider

The Carlow Brewery Company, one of Ireland's biggest independent craft beer producers, has acquired Craigies Cider for an undisclosed sum.

The producer, which trades as O'Hara's Brewery, said it will add Craigies to its own portfolio, which includes its own craft cider brand, Falling Apple.

Craigies Cider was founded in 2011 by Simon Tyrrell and Angus Craigie at Ballyhook Farm in Co. Wicklow.

The sale includes Craigies cider production equipment, enabling the Carlow Brewery Company to bring all production in-house to the Bagenalstown-based microbrewery.

“We launched Falling Apple Cider in 2015, and the goal was to take the cider production in-house, the deal with Craigies has facilitated this objective. It will allow us to expand and innovate our Falling Apple range, and also continue to produce the Craigies cider range to the high standard their many fans expect,” said Seamus O’Hara, chief executive of Carlow Brewery Company.

“We see the ciders as complementary, and we look forward to introducing some really interesting and exciting new ciders from both Falling Apple and Craigies to Irish cider lovers and beyond this year,” he added.

Carlow Brewery Company was established by Seamus and Eamonn O’Hara in 1996.
