Dublin trad bar O’Donoghue’s on song as profits soar

O'Donoghue's, the legendary traditional music bar that was once a regular haunt of the Dubliners and Christy Moore, recorded a sharp rise in accumulated profits last year.

Newly-filed abridged accounts show the family-run bar, which is located on Dublin’s Merrion Row, saw accumulated profits increase from just €31,255 to €537,955 in the 12 months to the end of June 2015.

A year earlier the company enjoyed its best ever set of results till now with a profit of €316,898, which helped the company bounce back from a €285,644 accumulated loss.

Now owned by Oliver and Marie Barden, O'Donoghue's, was originally built as a grocery store in 1789 but became a pub in 1934, when it was acquired by Paddy and Maureen O'Donoghue.

The bar became famous in the early 1960s when acts such as The Dubliners began performing there regularly. Other well-known traditional musicians to have played there include The Fureys and Seamus Ennis.
