Irish Times journalist Eoin Burke-Kennedy was among the recipients of this year’s UCD Smurfit School Business Journalist Awards.
Mr Burke-Kennedy was named Business Analyst of the Year in the awards, which recognise excellence in Irish business journalism and are now in their 17th year. His submission included two articles: From high-minded ambition to mere corporate tokenism: ESG’s rise and fall and The rise and fall of Blackberry serves as a lesson for Ireland.
Among the other journalists recognised across the categories were the Irish Independent’s Charlie Weston, who picked up the award for business news story of the year, John Ihle of the Sunday Independent, who won buisness feature of th e year, and Catherine Sanz of the Business Post, who received the award for women in business journalism. Conall Ó Móráin of the Media Group was awarded audio story of the year, while Thomas Hubert from the Currency won the prize for business interview of the year.
The Irish Examiner’s Emer Walsh was named upcoming journalist of the year.

The Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to the Sunday Times’ Brian Carey. Previous recipients of the awards include Irish Times journalists Colm Keena and Karlin Lillington, journalist Dearbhail McDonald, and RTE’s Connelly.
“In a tumultuous time around the world, journalists play an ever-important role in highlighting business trends that have an impact in Ireland and beyond,” Professor Federica Pazzaglia, director of UCD Smurfit School and associate dean of UCD College of Business said.
The awards are run in conjunction with the Business Journalists Association of Ireland, and are sponsored by Bank of Ireland.
