Aon appoints Mairead O’Mahony as head of wealth

Qualified actuary will look after pensions and investment businesses

Mairead O’Mahony is joining professional services firm Aon as head of wealth, the company said on Tuesday.

Ms O’Mahony joins Aon from Mercer, where she had been chief commercial officer since 2019.

As head of wealth solutions, Ms O’Mahony will be responsible for Aon’s pensions and investment businesses.

She pointed out that new rules governing pensions were shifting the way that both employers and trustees thought about defined-benefit and defined-contribution schemes.

“The introduction of auto-enrolment in 2024 will also be a significant milestone and one which businesses must start preparing for,” added Ms O’Mahony.

Welcoming the appointment, Rachael Ingle, chief executive of Aon Ireland, pointed out that new rules made the “retirement investment landscape” increasingly complex.

Ms O’Mahony qualified as an actuary and has almost 20 years’ experience in the Irish pensions industry.

Aon employs 750 people in the Republic.
