Three To Watch

Dejan Stankovic

Age: 20

Club: Lazio

Position: Midfield

Came to prominence a couple of seasons ago with Red Star where he won two cup medals. In the build-up to France 98, his attacking style of play from the centre of the pitch and keen eye for a scoring opportunity prompted Lazio to get in ahead of the rush and sign the then 19-year-old on an eight-year contract. Since the move, the youngster has been quick to make his name in Serie A and helped his new club to second in the league as well as the last ever Cup Winners Cup.

Sinisa Mihajlovic

Age: 30

Club: Lazio Position: Central defence

Like his clubmate, Mihajlovic moved to Italy from Red Star, initially joining Roma and moving on to Sampdoria before arriving at Lazio last summer. Started his career in midfield, where he played when helping Red Star to the European Cup, but has since switched to defence where he is a powerful figure at both club and international levels. Immensely solid at the back, he also possesses a wonderful free-kick with which he can score from up to 30 yards.

Pedrag Mijatovic

Age: 30

Club: Fiorentina

Position: Striker

A victim of the big clear-out at Real Madrid, Mijatovic remains one of the best strikers in Europe and has recently been captaining his international side. His strike rate at this level may have calmed down a little since his remarkable run in the World Cup qualifiers when he was the leading scorer in the entire competition, but with 18 goals in 41 appearances he still poses a formidable threat.
