Bernie Ecclestone, the man who controls formula One racing, is once again demonstrating why he is one of the richest men in sport. Ecclestone is calling for the reintroduction of Friday qualifying as well as Saturday, giving the sport three days' exposure to television and other media outlets.

If television wants to expand its coverage to the Friday it would mean renegotiating contracts with Ecclestone's Formula One Administration company.

It will also enhance the millionaire's digital payper-view coverage of Grand Prix racing in which he has invested around £50million. The issue of Friday qualifying is a regular point of discussion for the Formula One Constructor's Association of which Ecclestone, of course, is president.
