NEWS:KEIREN WESTWOOD became the latest addition to the Irish squad for tomorrow's friendly international against Poland at Croke Park with the Coventry City goalkeeper drafted in after Dean Kiely was forced to return to England with a sprained wrist.

Assistant manager Liam Brady said that he is not sure whether Westwood or Joe Murphy will serve as number two to Shay Given, but the clear implication of the Dubliner's comments after training yesterday were that the Newcastle United goalkeeper will be one of the Giovanni Trapattoni regulars to start the game.

Brady, meanwhile, was at pains to point out that while Trapattoni had noted on Sunday Andy Reid's tendency to be "sad" when not selected to play in Ireland games, the Italian was in no way criticising the Sunderland midfielder's professionalism. "What I want to get across to you is that Giovanni wasn't saying the boy has a poor attitude in any way at all," he said. "Andy obviously wants to play, and he was down about not playing and not being involved. But he trained very well at all times and he never caused us any problems whatsoever, so I don't want that to come across - and neither does the manager - that the boy had a poor attitude. That's not the case at all.

"He is a very, very good player, but Giovanni doesn't see him fitting into the system he is using at the moment, a system that has brought us seven points from nine, and enabled us to play six games and still be unbeaten."

While Caleb Folan looks likely to start tomorrow's game alongside Kevin Doyle in Ireland's attack, Brady was also positive about the prospect of Reading striker Noel Hunt making his international debut against the Poles. "Caleb did very well when he came in for the game against Nottingham Forest, as did one or two others, and I am sure Caleb will feature at some time.

"He (Noel) is a goer, though, and he is getting a few goals, so he is obviously playing with confidence at the moment. I have been to see him play for Reading a few times and he is a very enthusiastic player, a bit like his brother (Stephen)."

Finally, the former Arsenal and Ireland midfielder said that it is still possible the well regarded Sheffield United right back Kyle Naughton may decide to ignore interest from the English FA and declare for Ireland. "We are asking the questions now," he said. "We will find that out. He is doing quite well, so England are getting interested now that we are interested but we will see."
