Westbrooks takes over in Killester shake-up

There has been more early shuffling in the ESB SuperLeague with the announcement from Killester that coach Ken Black has been replaced by Jerome Westbrooks just four weeks into his term.

After their rocky start to the season, the league and cup champions are looking for another kick-start and Westbrooks is capable of providing that. His coaching success at underage level has been impressive and, as a player, he is still capable of turning a game.

Black becomes the third coaching casualty since the season tip-off, following the fate of Neptune's Noel Allen for health reasons and then Tolka's Eoin McKeown last weekend.

Player changes have settled down, with only one team so far making an alteration for this weekend. Tyrone have let go point-guard Rod Ramzy and replaced him with Jerrod Paige, who starred for Ballina in their cup battle against Tralee last weekend.

With 12 men's games taking place between tomorrow and next Tuesday, the league table should begin to take some shape.

Westbrooks is just one injury concern for Killester ahead of their meeting with Tyrone on Sunday, along with Jonathon Grennell, Ed Randolph, and John Quigley, but the points are still there for the taking as Tyrone remain without a win.

Particularly eager to get some points will be Killarney, who started so well but then suffered a first-round cup defeat to Waterford last weekend. Their busy schedule starts tomorrow night with a Kerry derby against fellow league leaders Tralee, followed by two more away games, against Limerick on Monday and the Demons on Tuesday night.

All the action in the women's league takes place tomorrow, and interest focuses on the Wildcats-Tolka Rovers clash. The Wildcats will be without the injured Orla Dempsey and Trish Nolan.
