Though the focus switches back to league action this weekend, the cup finals of next month will still be on the mind of Waterford and Star of the Sea. Their meeting on Sunday will be a closely observed preview to their semi-final in six weeks' time, when both sides will be looking to stay on course to win the cup for the first time.

The momentum appears to be with Waterford, who continue to hold a narrow advantage at the top of the league table and swept past Sligo in the cup quarter-finals last weekend. The Belfast club have been struggling at the other end of the table, but their comfortable quarter-final win over Tolka Rovers has boosted the confidence of Danny Fulton's side.

His Waterford counterpart Michael Evans is insisting that this result will mean very little when it comes to the cup competition but neither side will be exactly eager to concede a psychological advantage at this stage. Both teams are reported to be injury free.

The busy fixture list this weekend also has Star of the Sea in action this evening, when they meet St Vincent's. The Dublin club are starting to get desperate for league points if they want to stay in the title race and with a full squad available they should be satisfied here.

St Vincent's are also back on court again on Sunday when they host Limerick, who will be without the suspended Dave Barry. Two other Dublin clubs - Notre Dame and Killester - will be even more eager for the points when they meet Tralee and Neptune respectively.

Notre Dame are wallowing fourth from the bottom and although Tralee have been wildly inconsistent, they still have the greater scoring power. Killester, though, have improved markedly in recent weeks and they are more likely to handle the Cork side.

The women's league has thrown up the always-exciting meeting of Tolka Rovers and the Wildcats. The latter have a slim advantage in the table and were one-point winners in the earlier meeting.
