Once they recover from the post-tournament celebrations, Trinity College will return home to Dublin accompanied by both the Mauritius and Chilean Cups after their men's and women's teams won their finals at the intervarsity tournament in Jordanstown yesterday.

It was Trinity's fourth successive victory in the Chilean Cup, but it was hard earned - after a scoreless final they won an epic penalty strokes competition 10-9 against old adversaries UCD. Barbara Sheehy-Skeffington made the decisive save. Trinity captain Linda Caulfield had earlier scored the goals that put her team through to the final, in a 2-1 win over the University of Ulster, while Emma Jane Cassidy got a golden goal winner for UCD against the University of Limerick after the game was tied at 1-1 at the end of normal time.

In the men's final, Michael Harte was the Trinity hero, scoring a superb individual goal to give his team a 3-2 win in a thrilling match against the University of Ulster. Scott McCandless had given the hosts an early lead, but Harte and Gareth Hinds put Trinity 2-1 up before Clark Kennedy levelled with a penalty stroke.
