He prefers full back but Geordan Murphy continued to show his ability and versatility by claiming a try in Leicester's facile Allied Dunbar victory over Saracens at Welford Road on Saturday. Murphy may be asked by the Irish team management to play on the wing in the forthcoming A international against England at Northampton. Darragh O'Mahony was a member of the Saracens ranks although the same can not be said of Paul Wallace who failed to make his customary appearance as a replacement.

Kevin Maggs gave another fine display in the centre as Bath beat Wasps, while Clem Boyd came off the bench. Paul Burke was called into the Cardiff side as Neil Jenkins was rested for their Cup match with Rumney and the former Irish international helped himself to a wagon-load of points in their 71-17 victory.

Former Shannon star Andrew Thompson earned rave reviews for his performance at out-half for Bedford despite losing to Northampton.
