GOLF:The record books will show that Mark O'Sullivan, in his first ever European Tour event, finished tied with former US PGA champion Rich Beem. Okay, it was for tied-60th, but the Galwayman – who trained under John Dwyer at Ashbourne and has completed his PGA training – won't be touching a golf club for a month.

“Would you believe I am heading to Thailand tomorrow for three and a half weeks with the girlfriend? I am not playing golf until August,” said O’Sullivan, who is toying with the idea of heading off to tour school at the end of the year.

“This obviously gives me loads of encouragement. Even all the guys I played with, they’re very good – but you always think they’re much better than what they are. They’re just very solid, so I played quite solidly this week too.”
