If we'd a pound for every time we read "Tranmere's Republic of Ireland under-21 midfielder Alan Mahon was this week linked with a move to blankety blank (name any English or Scottish Premiership club you can think of)" we'd be wealthy people by now. But maybe, just maybe, the former Crumlin United man is about to leave Prenton Park now that John Aldridge appears to have decided to cash in on the player who will be out of contract next summer. The Sunday People is tipping Celtic to get their man, but they're hedging their bets by `linking' him with Newcastle, Derby, Leeds and Middlesbrough as well.

"It's Sheffield Glennsday," declared yesterday's Sunday Mirror. Yes, they reckon Glenn Hoddle is about to link up with former singing partner Chris Waddle to replace Danny Wilson as Hillsborough boss. Manchester City, Wolves and Fulham are all - according to The Star - trying to sign Liverpool's German striker Karlheinz Riedle while his compatriot Oliver Bierhoff, currently playing with AC Milan, has announced that he will probably join Chelsea or Arsenal when his contract expires in three years' time. Whether or not he has informed Gianluca Vialli or Arsene Wenger of this piece of news we're not sure.
