Badminton suffered a high profile drugs bust this week when Sigit Budiarto, who was part of the 1997 world doubles title-winning team tested positive for the anabolic steroid, Nandrolone. The player has not yet been sanctioned by his federation but judging from the other disciplinary measures handed out recently, Budiarto should expect a little more than a slap on the wrist.

Last Monday two of England's top badminton players were banned from representing their country after being involved in what was described as `high-jinks with brooms' after a few drinks in their Dutch hotel.

Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Peter Knowles was suspended until the end of the year, while team-mate Colm Haughton was banned until the end of November.

High jinks with brooms indeed - what on earth was going on!
