A MIGHTILY impressive 2,118 of our teams have now passed the million euro earning mark in the competition, and while the newcomers to this distinguished club might still be close to €800,000 short of Frank Brennan’s leading total, where there is Golf Masters’ life there is, surely, hope?

Alas, though, time is speedily running out for those hoping for a late and glorious sprint to the finish line.

After this week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio there is just a solitary month left in the competition, with six tournaments spread over the four weeks.

But remember, one of those events – the USPGA Championship – offers double the regular prize money and our final tournament, the European Masters, carries one and half times the usual rewards.

There are, then, copious amounts of money still to be won, so don’t wave that white flag just yet. Unless you’re the manager of one of the nine teams in the competition yet to break the €300,000 earnings mark.

Although . . . what’s that old proverb? ‘False hope is nicer than no hope at all’.
