Ryan beaten in first round

Derek Ryan was beaten in the first round of the British National Squash Championships in Manchester yesterday, losing in five sets to the unseeded Paul Hargrave of Derbyshire.

Ryan, the tournament's ninth seed, led by two sets but Hargrave rallied to the take the final three and clinch his place in the second round. The tournament is not a world ranking event so the defeat will not affect the Dubliner's current position of 12.
