Rovers defeated Fingal 4-3 on penalties. Lucas Piccioli and Andy McConnell scored the Rovers goals with a David Bane penalty and an Andrew Shekleton strike levelling the match at 2-2 before the shoot-out proved key.

At Rathdown, Monkstown went down 3-2 to Glenanne, while Suttonians lost 4-3 at home to Railway Union. Monkstown were to face Pembroke in their first-round match but the Serpentine Avenue side had their appeal for a postponement turned down by the Leinster Branch, which allowed the Glenageary side go through to face Glenanne.

Railway led 3-0 in their match before Suttonians staged something of a comeback with Paul O'Brien netting two goals for the winners. At UCD the students went down by three goals. Their gutsy resistance was finally broken with Jamie Tobin, Richie Miles and Andy Walker all scoring.
