Railway through to last four

MEN'S HOCKEY:RAILWAY UNION moved a step closer to reaching their first Irish Senior Cup final since 1975 when they won through to the last four of the competition on Saturday, beating Leinster champions Glenanne 3-0.

A Rob Abbott goal had Railway 1-0 up at half-time, further scores from Peter English and Eoin Mac Arthur sealed the victory.

A week after they were held to a 3-3 draw by Pembroke Wanderers at home in the Irish Hockey League, Lisnagarvey initially struggled again to get the better of their Leinster opponents at Comber Road. But Timmy Cockram broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half, with Greg Thompson and Steven Arbuthnot securing their place in the last four.

Cork Harlequins will fly the Munster flag in the semi-finals following their 2-1 win over Banbridge. David Lombard’s reverse strike gave them the lead before Peter Brown levelled, but Colin Ross got the goal that sets up a tie against Instonians.

Instonians left it late to see off NICS at Stormont, Julian Lewis getting the only goal of the game in the final minute.
