THE 40th annual Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Hurling Sevens competition was launched in Croke Park yesterday by GAA director general Páraic Duffy with news of a new sponsor.

The event has its usual spot in the calendar, on the eve of the All-Ireland hurling final, with over 60 clubs taking part and a new sponsorship deal in place.

“In this landmark year, the 40th annual occurrence of this event, Kilmacud Crokes is very pleased to announce that our brand new sponsor for this year’s competition is One Direct, one of Ireland’s leading insurance companies,” said Crokes hurling chairman Peter Walsh.

In 2011, 40 senior clubs from 10 counties competed in the senior competition, with 16 teams in the shield, eventually won by Kildangan from Tipperary, after they overcame hosts Kilmacud after extra-time in the final.

“There will be over 100 games, a true feast of hurling, with group games beginning at 10.30am and the throw-in for the final scheduled for approximately 6.45pm at our home grounds at Glenalbyn in Stillorgan village,” Walsh added.
